In 1775 Spaniards arrived in Eldorado Canyon, Nevada. In their quest for gold these Spaniards founded a small settlement near the Colorado River they called Eldorado. Unfortunately for these Spaniards, the gold veins running through the canyon were missed. Instead of gold they discovered silver. The silver was in low quantities, too low to fund their operations. They eventually moved on and gold prospectors would not return to the area for seventy-five years.
